President Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate Green School Advisory Board Chair Eliot Pedrosa to a key position as the United States Alternate Executive Director of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), pending Senate confirmation.
Founded in 1959, the IDB works to improve lives in Latin American and the Caribbean through financial and technical support for countries working to reduce poverty and inequality; improve health and education; and advance infrastructure. The organization has 2,000 employees across four continents with headquarters in Washington, D.C. Its 48 member countries are represented by a Board of Executive Directors, of which Eliot will be a part. In 2016, the IDB approved more than $280 million in grants and $9.3 billion in loans to support projects in 26 countries.
Mr. Pedrosa is a Principal Shareholder of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig and chairman of the firm's Miami litigation department. Mr. Pedrosa was previously appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to serve as a member of the Third District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission, recently completing his term as Vice Chairman. Previously he served as an attorney in the enforcement division of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Pedrosa is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Florida International University, graduating summa cum laude.
