The application “Háblame Bebé” was developed by FIU and New York University in order to assist Hispanic parents with the preservation of their children’s Spanish and add more words to their children’s vocabulary. The app instructs parents on how to teach Spanish to their children, gives them advice and promotes bilingualism.
“There are studies that show that bilingual children have better executive functions, they can find solutions to problems more easily,” said Melissa Baralt, an associate professor in the Modern Languages department at the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs at FIU on the Telemundo segment.
The app gives parents conversation ideas to have with their children and keep track of the amount of words the children have learned. It also has videos with testimonies and advice from parents who are raising bilingual children as well.
