| By

Dr. Mohsin Jaffer, founding donor of the Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies at FIU, speaks during the 1st Annual Iftar Dinner.

According to Islamic belief, Ramadan commemorates the first revelation of the Quran from God to the Prophet Muhammad, through the angel Gabriel. This communal breaking of the fast welcomes Muslims and non-Muslims alike to come together in a celebratory meal. The evening began with a short lecture on the history of Ramadan and fasting within Islam and included discussions of the many variations of fasting within different religious communities.
