The American Academy of Religion has elected FIU Religious Studies Professor Whitney Bauman to its 2019 Board of Directors. Bauman has been elected Program Unit Director for the AAR, a professional association whose mission is to foster excellence in the study of religion and enhance the public understanding of religion.

"The American Academy of Religion, at about 10,000 members, is the largest, professional and academic organization in the field of Religious Studies," said Bauman, who specializes in the field of religion and science with a focus on religion and ecology/nature. "As Program Unit Director and Board Member, I'll be able to help chart the future for the field of religious studies, and to help promote more public scholarship within religious studies."
