On February 2, 2023, Asian Studies Program held the first part of the Southern Japan Seminar featuring Dr. Levi McLaughlin from North Carolina State University. In his talk, titled "After the Abe Assassination: Tracking Religion in Japan," Dr. McLaughlin discussed the turmoil following the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, contextualizing popular and political reactions while surveying how religion-connected activists in Japan exert a decisive impact on politics.
